Mr Love is one of the best writers I have ever read. While I was born in the 40's things were still hard. We picked cotton to make enough money to buy clothes and shoes for school. Worked in the fields and took care of the little one's, cleaned house did laundry and cooked while Mother worked at her job. Normal everyday living with lots of love to go around. Hard times but good times for a 12 year old girl.Product details

Love reading stories about how it use to be growing before these crazy times we live in today..just loved it. Easy to read..
Travel back to a time when families were self-sufficient and lived off the land. This memoir has the feel of a Mark Twain story, with tales of pigs and possums and adventures in the caves and on the rivers of the Ozark Mountains.
Your memoir is great reading. I love the title of the book. People of all ages will enjoy learning from your experiences outside the big cities. Each chapter tells an engaging story. Once these stories are enjoyed by parents and grandparents they will be able to watch the enjoyment of their children and grandchildren as they read your stories to them. People involved in educating younger children will be able to use these stories in classroom/ children's activities. Kids will be captivated. They can then be encouraged to tell their stories. Thanks for providing fun and interesting insights about life through an engaging read.

I love these well-written tales based on life in a small Ozark Mountains town. It's especially interesting to me since I'm from the same town as the author, if fact, I was born during the same winter he describes. I recommend this book as a good read while sitting around the open fireplace with a hot cup of coffee with a little chicory. RL is a good storyteller. He has several other books about life in Southern Missouri that are very entertaining.

This is a book about what it was like for a boy growing up on a farm in the Ozarks before modern conveniences. I am close to the author's age so it brought back some fond memories for me. How nice to read a book without intrigue and murders in every chapter.
Makes growing up in the Ozarks something I miss, even though I never experienced it. Warm and interesting to live through growing up there in the first half of last century through the author's eyes. I don't even like fishing and he makes me savor it.
