He planned for everything except her. She's too busy to follow her dreams. But sometimes the dream you never expected is the one you can't live without.
Six years after a painful divorce, Josh Conrad is happy traveling the world as a photographer. When he arrives in Portugal, he plans to complete the assignment as quickly as possible. What he doesn't plan for is Sofia, the girl he baptized eleven years earlier on an LDS mission, and soon he's making excuses to prolong his trip.
Sofia Monteiro leads a structured life in Braga, Portugal, teaching high school by day and caring for her mother by night. After she reconnects with Josh through mutual friends, the memory of a failed relationship and her new graduate program are enough reasons to stay away from him.
As they collaborate on a project, Josh is wary of repeating his old mistakes and Sofia hesitates to spend time with an American who's only passing through.
Can two people with wounded hearts bring themselves to trust their dreams to each other?

I don't really love giving anything five stars, because I feel there are almost always things to improve. But this sweet love story definitely leans more toward 5 stars than 4 for me.Possibly because I could relate to both characters, I loved this story! I am a photographer like Josh. And I have been a teacher, and my mother had a form of dementia, like Sofia. Also, I've been on both sides of the "questioning my foundational beliefs" thing--doubt and faith. And I loved that family was such an important part of the story line. Lots of romances don't deal with family issues, unless they are a roadblock to the main plot. Seeing their family challenges made them real people. Many of their challenges were familiar to me.
The description of the setting and the character development was also really good. I loved seeing Portugal through their eyes, as Sofia took Josh to see sites and to shoot. I loved that they both changed and grew as their relationship progressed.
This is a clean romance that goes beyond the fluff of many romances. Sofia and Josh are real people with real challenges. I loved reading their story. Thank you, Lucinda Whitney, for sharing!

The Secret Life of Daydreams A Clean Contemporary Inspirational Romance a Love Story from Portugal edition by Lucinda Whitney Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised to find a thoughtful, well written, sophisticated love story. I don't think you need to be LDS to appreciate it either. There's little doctrine and none LDS specific. Wonderful characters with an endearing couple to root for. I imagine if you know The language it's even fun to get a bit of an insider's taste of the nuances of the Portuguese scattered throughout. Definitely worth a read.
If you're looking for a good LDS sweet romance, this is it. I enjoyed the story, and appreciated the conflict. The main characters share an attraction, but the now-inactive missionary who baptized her isn't interested in a temple wedding. For an active LDS young woman, the conflict is real, and she is willing to walk away from him. I like learning from the books I read, and I enjoyed reading about Portugal and even some of the language. There are links on the author page to recipes, and I was interested in trying out some of the dishes mentioned in the book. It was well written and a fun read.
I really love this book. Such a sweet story. The fact that they knew each other years ago in what basically amounts to a different lifetime then meet again years later when they are both in a position they can develop a relationship is fun. But it's not all cake and ice-cream. They have some serious differences to deal with, handle it very maturely, but there is enough romance, sweetness, and hope to pull you through. And the setting in Portugal makes me want to go visit there some day. A very beautiful story.
Lucinda drew on her heritage to write a believable romance set in her homeland of Portugal. The descriptions of the locations are vivid enough for me to want to add Portugal to my bucket list without overpowering the emerging love story. The context is definitely LDS but the theme of redemption can be enjoyed by any reader without being lost in LDS culture. The smattering of Portuguese vocabulary left me as confused as Josh might have been and was not overly distracting but I did want a good translation dictionary. I am in love with the cover. Great job for a debut novel.
Romance is the name of the game in this book. This book delivers what we all want more romance and excitement in our life. Overall I am very well pleased with this book and the excitement it has brought me. This book had me unwilling to put it down until I turned the last page. Would I recommend this book to other people? Yes I would including friends .I absolutely think this is great book. All opinions are my own and they are not influenced by anyone but myself. If this review helped you at all please vote yes below.
Josh and Sofia's story. Wow! Such vivid descriptions of Portugal- the cities, towns, countryside and beaches - I can picture it so clearly. The architecture, the customs, the culture, the people, the food! All so beloved and treasured. The characters were brought to life- so very complex in their behaviors, beliefs and actions. The language is beautifully written and lyrical I can actually hear it. What an encompassing, excellent book.I have fallen in love!
This is my first read of a novel by Lucinda Whitney. I will happily read more by this delightful author.
It's apparent she knows her stuff when it comes to Portugal. Living abroad really pays off when the author can draw on experience to paint the reader right into the setting. Her descriptions allowed me to soak in the Portuguese scenery and culture without all the language barrier and culture shock of being there.
The story is carefully crafted and solidly built. Everything unfolds in due course and at the right moment = perfect pacing. The characters are emotionally engaging and life like. Don't be surprised if you find yourself wrapped up in their problems, emotional struggles, and spiritual trials, along with their joys, heartfelt gratitude, and charity.
Get swept up in the best kind of daydream in this lovely novel.
